1963
He formed a friendship with Kenji Tomiki through their mutual friends. He empathised deeply with Tomiki's ideals and enthusiasm for aikido. Practice began in a corner of the first floor dormitory of the Showa Tochi Tatemono Company. This was on the same site as the current Shodokan dojo. Up until 1969, Hideo Oba and Waseda University Aikido Club members visited regularly to teach.

1967
Junkichi Uchiyama (born Miyake) graduated from Kokushikan University in April and went to Osaka in July as a full-time instructor. He supported Tomiki in his efforts to found Shodokan as the first dojo exclusively for Tomiki's aikido.
1st class for the aikido randori system
1969
The first class for aikido randori was held at the Momoyama Gakuin University on 10th October. It was introduced by Tomiki, Oba and students from the Kanto area to six universities in Kansai that were affiliated to Hirokazu Kobayashi of the Aikikai. One of the students attending was Tetsuro Nariyama.

2nd class for the aikido randori system
1970
He supported the second class for aikido randori was held for the six universities on 11th March. The venue was the New Japan judo dojo in Osaka run by Shohei Hamano (9th dan Kodokan Judo) who had trained with Tomiki.

Previous Shodokan dojo
1976
On 28th March he accepted Tomiki's request to establish a Shodokan headquarters. The result was the foundation of the old Shodokan dojo with an area over 70 tatami.

Current Shodokan dojo
1988
He carried on Tomiki Shihan's enthusiasm and desire to spread aikido and, on 27th March, completed the building of the present Shodokan headquarters.
Presentation to Uchiyama Sensei 1996
The 30th anniversary of the establishment of Shodokan was held on 6th May at the Nikko Hotel in Osaka and was attended by many instructors and visitors. Toshinori Arao, the president of the Kansai Competitive Aikido League presented him with a gift in recognition of his many years of support and service to spreading Shodokan aikido. He donated the Uchiyama Cup awarded to the winner of a mixed team event which was adopted officially into the Kansai Tournament.
